Rewinding the Pages, Forwarding the Books #2: July 2016

Rewinding the Pages, Forwarding the Books is a monthly post where I list all the books I’ve read and added to my TBR list in the current month.

Here are the books that I’ve read in the past month, so you can expect reviews of it posted sooner or later.

The Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan

The Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan

These two series are interconnected with each other. I’m a fast reader and the books themselves are addictive. I prefer Percy Jackson more, though. I read these books at the recommendation of my brother, who has re-read these books numerous times.

Pivot Point series by Kasie West

Pivot Point was the first book I picked up to clean out my TBR list. I directly continued to the sequel as there are only two books in the series.

The Cure for Dreaming by Cat Winters

The second book picked up after Pivot Point ended. One of the best in this list.

Uglies by Scott Westerfield

I initially wanted to directly continue to the sequels and finish the series, but somehow I’ve lost interest in continuing. Maybe one day I’ll do it.

Across the Universe series by Beth Revis

The first book was extremely flawed, but it got better onwards.

I’ll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios

Also one of the best on the list, but the ending kind of ruined it.

Dangerous Boys, Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas

My last two reads of the month (I decided to take some time off from reading on the last day). I don’t read a lot of thriller novels, but they surea are twisted.

And now, we review the books that I recently added to my TBR shelf. I found this useful as I often forgot why I wanted to read the book in the first place and then completely lost interest in them.

 

The Demigod Diaries, The Demigod Files by Rick Riordan

These two are complementary books to the Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus series. Since I have finished them up, I guess it won’t hurt to try out their side books, too, even though it might take a long time to actually pick them up.

I’m Not Your Manic Pixie Dream Girl by Gretchen McNeil

Manic pixie dream girl is one of my favourite tropes in fiction. The synopsis sounds like a total chick-flick-girl-has-a-male-bestfriend-who-changed-for-the-boy-she-likes-but-then-realised-that-her-true-love-is-the-bestfriend, but this review was read and then…*clicks ‘Want to Read’*.

Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy

I found out about this book from this blog tour post by Uncorked Thoughts. I was a fat girl and the main character is a fat girl, too, so I guess it’ll be fun to read some badass fat girl breaking stereotypes and taking over the world.

All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

This is one of the novels that won the Goodreads Choice Awards last year, and guess what the first passage tells you? “…meets Eleanor and Park” *clicks ‘Want to Read’*. The reviews indicate that this book might be overrated, but, hey, anything Eleanor and Park I’ll read it.

Stardust by Neil Gaiman

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

I exchanged the Gaiman book that has been sitting on my TBR shelf for these two. Stardust has a movie tie-in which I remembered to be quite enjoyable, while The Graveyard Book has something necro in it, which I love.

Strange Sweet Sing by Adi Rule

I discovered this one of Wendy’s Top Ten Tuesday posts. The gothic setting, the secrets behind Angelique and Felix, and this mysterious vocal coach sound intriguing.

Wintersong by S.Jae Jones

And unreleased book—I found this one on My Friends are Fiction (she’s having a giveaway for this book, too!). I never seen this ‘Labyrinth’ movie before—just heard about it from this post, too—but the plot sounded familiar, the Beauty and the Beast familiar where a girl became  a ‘prisoner’ for some guy to let her loved one who was initially this guy’s prisoner free, but in the end they ended up falling in love. But the twist in which the guy has been the girl’s muse for her music, the secret fact that they actually had met as kids, and the danger of the girl’s life slipping away is enchanting. I’m looking forward to it.

 

The Assasin Game by Kirsty McKay

I have been seeing this book everywhere on the blogosphere. The plot sounds interesting, so why not?

Dracula by Bram Stoker

I became interested in this after reading The Cure for Dreaming. The main character in that book was crazy about Dracula, which was a newly-released novel in that period. I actually the first 72 pages, but as the book was written in Old English, I have trouble understanding. I mostly skim through it. In the end, I gave up and decided to give it a try some other time. *sigh*. This is why I usually put off reading the classic books on my TBR list.
